PAT HOLLEY’s efforts as a playwright began in the early ’90s when she began to write the book for her new musical, Me & Caesar Lee. After many staged readings and resulting revisions, this musical is now ready for a production of its concert version and/or a workshop production of its full book. Pat Holley was a contributing composer for the Off-Off-Broadway musical, “Mama, I Want To Sing.” The original version ran for eight years at the Heckscher Theatre in New York City and toured extensively throughout the world. |

For the Positano (Italy) Music Festival, headed by Franco Zefferelli and for then Metropolitan Opera star Shirley Verrett,* Pat Holley wrote dialogue for, structured, arranged and co-orchestrated (for a 24-piece orchestra) nineteen Gershwin songs comprising the show, “Verrett Sings Gershwin.” This presentation was highly acclaimed in cities throughout the world, including New Orleans, Moscow and Rome, as well as Verona and Positano, Italy where it was televised throughout Europe. Continuing in the field of theater music, she selected and arranged five of “Broadway’s Greatest Songs” for Ms. Verrett which were recorded on the Phillips Classics label. Following Ms. Verrett’s appearance in the 1994 Lincoln Center revival of Carousel, Pat arranged for piano and voice a medley of songs from that musical for recital performances by Ms. Verrett. She has worked throughout her career as a voice coach and teacher with a wide variety of well-known artists in the fields of theater, pop and R&B music, and she has logged hundreds of hours in various recording studios as a producer for her own compositions. She has written songs for a number of commercial recordings, three of which have been re-released by Universal and MCA Records. The artist, Stephanie Mills, recorded these songs just prior to and during her five years as Dorothy in the original Broadway musical, The Wiz. Starting her career as a cabaret artist, Pat Holley was especially known for her vocal and piano performances of theater songs. New York Times critic John Wilson described her interpretations as “fascinating, beautiful and sensitive.” Pat studied composition and arranging with private teachers, as well as at City College of New York and The Juilliard School. She is a member of ASCAP and the Dramatist’s Guild. Contact: GGP@meandcaesarlee.com * S. Verrett, N.Y. Times Arts & Leisure Section, July 27, 2003, Pages 22-23. |
